Sure does.
Here’s a great tourism ad from a 1983 OMNI Magazine.

It’s a shame such a clever line used “America” instead of “The USA”, which is what it really means to say. As the largest country in America, Canada should not grant exclusive rights to a shared intercontinental word to a single country. It is unfortunate the US does not have a proper demonym, but that doesn’t mean it can take the name of two continents to itself, and deny its use to others. It behooves Canada and all others in America outside the US to defend its broader, inclusive meaning. Quebec does this refreshingly well.
Changed. Thanks for your input.
There was a radio campaign too. Done with the accents (and sounds) of — I think — 5 regions: The Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario, The Prairies and BC. Each ended with the tagline “America Borders on the Magnificent . . . Canada!” I just wish I had taped them — they were great
When I read that tag line, I can’t help but think of the righteous outrage it would spawn in America these days. “How dare the Canadians suggest that America is not fully magnificent!”. Prime Minister Harper would have to make a public apology.
How insecure the U.S. has become over the last 30-odd years.
